• How to calculate a woman's ideal weight based on height. Ideal weight for your height. Methods for determining excess weight

    23.04.2024

    There are many different factors that influence a woman's ideal height to weight ratio. Some representatives of the fair sex have wide bones and more muscles, others have thin bones and virtually no fat. The optimal values are individual for each figure.

    The shape of any person’s figure is determined by the type of skeletal structure and the amount of muscle mass

    The most important indicator of an ideal body is the balance of fat and musculoskeletal tissue. In the female body, the norm of fat is 12-20% of the total mass.

    The ratio of height and weight in women is considered ideal:

    • if the waist circumference approximately coincides with the chest circumference and is 25 cm less than the hip circumference;
    • with waist circumference corresponding to the formula “height in cm minus 100”;
    • which is true for an average height of 165-175 cm - the waist is approximately equal to their weight in kilograms.

    So, a proportionally built girl, 172 cm tall, has a hip circumference of 95-97 cm and a waist of 72 cm, wears size 48 clothes. But weight and height, the norm for women, can vary depending on a number of factors:

    1. age;
    2. body type;
    3. hormonal changes;
    4. individual characteristics,
    5. some diseases.

    For example, for an apple-type figure weighing 68 kg, the hips will be less than the chest circumference and larger than the waist by about 20 cm. And in the opposite case, for pear-shaped proportions - the chest is smaller than the hips, and those are 30 cm wider than the waist.

    Broca's formula

    This is a simple formula for a woman's body weight relative to height:

    • subtract 110 from the height in cm;
    • multiply the resulting number by 1.15;
    • what works for those with a normal physique;
    • ladies with curvy figures and heavy bones should increase the result by 10%; for graceful girls with thin bones, subtract the same 10% from the resulting value.

    For example, for a height of 170cm, the optimal weight = (170-110)*1.15, that is, 69kg.

    Quetelet's formula

    Body mass index allows you to determine the presence of obesity or problems with excessive thinness. It is calculated by the following formula:

    1. BMI=M\(P*P);
    2. BMI - body mass index;
    3. M - weight in kg;
    4. P - height in meters.

    Indices of normality of the ratio of body weight and height in women

    The second table of weight and height for women takes into account the correspondence of body weight to a certain age:

    Optimal body weight values depending on age and height

    Female body types

    It is easy to notice that the data presented in the tables is not focused on the peculiarities of the proportions of the human body. For most girls and women, weight distribution depends on their body type.

    Type A

    The structure of the body resembles a pear in appearance; its characteristic features include:

    • massive thighs and buttocks;
    • small waist and bust sizes;
    • short legs with wide ankles and calves;
    • graceful shoulders and thin arms;
    • fat deposits in the area of the sides and butt;
    • acute problem with cellulite.

    However, this body type is attractive to men. Only 15% of girls have it.

    Type X

    Such proportions are called “hourglass” or “X”. Happy owners of these parameters have an ideal weight-to-height ratio for women:

    1. uniform distribution of fat;
    2. rounded shape of the buttocks, smooth lines of the figure;
    3. slender long legs, proportional to the upper part;
    4. the volume of the bust is comparable to the width of the hips;
    5. 7 girths at the hips make up the waist.

    Type O

    Visually, the body resembles an oval or circle. Its structure is characterized by:

    • lush bust and flat butt with narrow hips;
    • full round face with short neck;
    • presence of average height;
    • fat layer around the waist and abdomen;
    • beautiful slender legs are a clear advantage of this type.

    Type H

    Masculine somatotype, outwardly reminiscent of a young man:

    1. waist, chest and hips almost identical in width;
    2. flat buttocks, as well as the general features of the figure as a whole;
    3. accelerated metabolism and weight loss;
    4. toned beautiful legs.

    Type U

    Y-shaped shapes are opposite in their features to a pear-type figure. They are characterized by:

    • the presence of narrow hips and broad shoulders;
    • flat butt and full breasts;
    • slender legs and thin waist;
    • fat accumulations in the upper and abdominal area.

    How to determine your height and leg length

    To understand what body weight is optimal for you, you need to accurately determine your height:

    1. stand straight with your back to the wall so that your buttocks, shoulder blades, back of your head, calves and heels touch it;
    2. place a flat plank on the top of your head and make a mark where it meets the wall;
    3. measure the distance from the floor to the mark you made.

    Depending on the results obtained, you can determine your height:

    • <150см - низкий;
    • 151-156cm - below average;
    • 157-167cm - average;
    • 168-175cm - quite tall;
    • >176cm - very tall.

    There are many beauty studies that have calculated the ideal length of female legs; according to their data, each height has its own indicators:

    1. 161-167cm - leg length 84-89cm, hip circumference 56-57cm, and shin circumference 34-35cm;
    2. 168-174cm - 90-94cm, 57-58cm and 35-36cm;
    3. 175-180cm - 95-100cm, 58-59cm, 37-38cm;
    4. for those who do not fit into these numbers, the difference between the length of the legs and half the height should be 2-6cm.

    In order to check the calculations, you need to correctly measure the length of your legs:

    • sit on a flat floor and stretch your legs, closing them together;
    • attach a tape measure to the outer part of the thigh, its highest point;
    • spread it lengthwise in a straight line so that it touches the ankle bone;
    • the resulting number is the length of your legs.

    Does age affect height-weight ratio?

    The answer to this question is obvious. With each passing year, metabolic processes in the female body slow down; hormonal changes and chronic diseases also play a role. Therefore, the norm for weight, height and age in women is more common at 20-21 years old in young girls than in those over 50 years old.

    Maintaining an attractive physique is not an easy task, but even after 50, you can speed up your metabolism if you stick to proper nutrition and reasonable exercise.

    Height to weight ratio calculator for women

    There are many different ways to calculate BMI, which can help you find out how many kilograms you need to gain or lose to the ideal value. A simple and popular option for calculating a woman’s normal weight by height is given in Broca’s simplified formula:

    There is also a weight and height calculator for women:

    body weight = (height in centimeters – 100) – (height in centimeters – 150) / 2;

    all you need to do is substitute your parameters into the formula.

    Body weight directly depends on height, as well as on the physical condition, bone structure, age and gender of a person. Let's solve the mystery of ideal weight and tell you how to calculate the ideal weight for your height.

    Let's not forget that we are all different. The notorious “big bone” is not an excuse at all, but quite objective data.

    Measure your wrist at the thinnest point, and now compare the resulting value with the Solovyov index:

    Asthenic type Normosthenic type Hypersthenic type
    Men < 18 см 18-20 cm > 20 cm
    Women < 15 см 15-17 cm > 17 cm

    To determine your body type, the Pignier method is sometimes used: Index = height – (weight + chest circumference).

    Thus, for asthenics the index is above 30, for normosthenics it is 10-30, for hypersthenics it is always below 10.

    Fragile, thin women and men of the first type rarely gain excess weight, usually expending a lot of energy. It is advisable for normostenics to follow a diet, but without fanaticism. Basically, their weight remains within normal limits. Those with “heavy” bones look larger and have broad shoulders and hips. Hypersthenics tend to be overweight.

    Now you know your body type. Focus on it when making calculations.

    Brocca's formula

    A variable system for calculating ideal weight was developed by Paul Brokk. Don't know what weight is optimal for you? Use this simple method.

    Ideal weight = height in cm – 100-110

    For height 155-165 cm, you need to subtract 100, 166-175 cm – 105, for women above 176 cm, the value 110 is used.

    Don't forget your body type! If you are asthenic or hypersthenic, subtract (add) 10% to the resulting figure, respectively.

    Body mass index - Quetelet calculation

    You've probably heard of BMI before. The formula is based on your existing weight and helps determine whether you are overweight or underweight.

    BMI = weight in kg / (height in m) 2

    For example, a woman 160 cm tall weighs 63 kg. We calculate: 63 / 1.6 2 = 24.6.

    This figure shows that the weight is within normal limits. If the index is below 19, then this clearly indicates a deficiency; perhaps there are problems with health, nutrition, or excess physical activity.

    But you shouldn’t be guided by bare numbers. It is important to remember that the formula is designed for people of average height; the indicators for men and women are also different. But it’s not at all suitable for athletes.

    Quetelet index

    Here is a slightly different approach, but close to the method described above for estimating the available weight.

    Index = weight (g) / height (cm)

    Body type, age characteristics and gender are taken into account. First, let's determine your body type. You need to stand in front of a mirror, straighten up, pull in your stomach as much as possible, and apply something straight to your lower ribs to create an angle. More than 90 degrees - the body type is defined as large, less - thin.

    Now look at the table. As you can see, there is no calculation for teenagers. But for adults, the data is quite objective.

    Lorentz formula

    Probably, the nutritionist was inspired only by the fair half of humanity. The method is not suitable for men.

    Ideal = (height in cm – 100) – (height in cm – 150) / 2

    Let's imagine that a girl 170 cm tall wants to lose weight, but does not know what goal to set. She takes the formula and sees:

    (170 – 100) – (170 – 150) / 2 = 70 – 20/2 = 60 kg

    Quite objectively, don’t you think? In addition, this method is consistent with BMI, which proves its feasibility.

    But for girls taller than 175 cm it is also not useful.

    Egorov-Levitsky table

    The table below shows the maximum permitted body weight! For men, taking into account muscles and bone structure, it is always higher.

    The method helps determine the presence of extra pounds in people whose bodies are already fully developed - between the ages of 20 and 69 years.

    But what about teenagers? Nowadays, girls are very susceptible to fashion trends - they go on strict diets, subject themselves to grueling workouts in order to achieve an ideal figure. But they are still growing! And such drastic methods are dangerous for a young body.

    The standard method for calculating body mass index will help here. Use an online calculator and explain to your child that health is most important - and with it will come beauty.

    Watch your thoughts, nutrition, exercise, enjoy life - this is what the ideal formula looks like. Feel free to correct what you are not happy with!

    Nutritionists are interested in numbers, indicators, statistics, and you are interested in happiness and self-love. Live in a way that makes you comfortable – and only you.

    Many people strive to lose weight by adhering to their own ideal standards. However, in pursuit of the figure parameters of a top model or actress, you can overdo it and harm the health of the body. Remember that a person’s optimal body weight is always calculated individually. Therefore, it is important to calculate the correct body weight. There are several formulas for this, and there is also a special weight and height calculator for men and women.

    Before we talk about how to calculate ideal weight, we note that each of us has an individual genetically predetermined value for optimal body weight. It depends on the innate characteristics and structure of the body. Therefore, any calculation of weight norms is conditional.

    What determines a person’s ideal weight?

    Before moving on to the ideal body weight formula, it is important to understand what criteria go into determining a person's ideal weight. Firstly, this is the gender of the person. Women naturally have a larger amount of body fat. Secondly, body type (normosthenic, hypersthenic and asthenic). Thirdly, height and age play a significant role in calculating your ideal weight. For example, it is much more difficult for people over 40 to lose weight due to the ongoing restructuring of the body.

    The hereditary factor also plays an important role. If there is a predisposition to obesity at the genetic level, getting rid of extra pounds is much more difficult. If we ignore this factor, we can find out the normal weight for men and women using various formulas; let’s look at each of them in more detail.

    Body weight formulas for men and women

    There are various weight and height calculators for adults and teenagers, but the simplest and most reliable way is to calculate the ideal weight based on height yourself. There are many formulas developed by scientists that allow you to find out your weight by height.

    Broca's formula

    The French doctor Paul Broc developed a formula for the relationship between weight and height, which is still considered one of the most universal. The formula takes into account not only height, but also body type (thin, normal, stocky) and age.

    The formula for Brock's ideal weight is as follows: height - 100. If a person has a thin build, you need to subtract 10%, and if you have a stocky build, add 10%.

    If height is less than 165 cm, subtract 105; if above 175 cm, subtract 110. Age should also be taken into account. People between 20 and 30 years old need to reduce the figure you get by 10-12%. If you are over 50 years old, increase it by 5-7%.

    Lorentz method

    Calculation of optimal weight for women: (height - 100) - 0.25 x (height - 150).

    Formula for ideal weight based on height and age

    Normal weight for women by age and height: 0.9 × (50 + 0.5 × (Height, cm - 150)) + 0.5 × (age - 20)

    Weight and height formula for men: 1 × (50 + 0.5 × (Height, cm - 150)) + 0.5 × (age - 20)

    Tables of normal weight and height

    In addition to special formulas, there are weight and height tables for men and women.

    Quetelet index

    We present a table of weight and height norms for adults from 20 to 65 years old. Please note that this calculation of weight and height is not suitable for teenagers, pregnant women, athletes and elderly people over 65 years of age.

    The result obtained should be compared with the table of height and weight for girls and men:

    Calculation of the ideal body weight of an adult Quetelet

    This author has another table of ideal height and weight, taking into account a person’s age and physique. To find out the ratio of weight, height and build, divide the weight in grams by the height in centimeters. Compare the result with the parameter in the specified cell, relative to your physique. The main criterion is to be honest with yourself when assessing your physique.

    Example: let’s calculate the normal weight for a height of 175 cm, age 25 years, weight 60 kg and normal build: 60,000 / 175 = 342.8. This is the normal index for this person.

    Table of weight and height of an adult Egorov-Levitsky

    To calculate the weight for a man and a woman using this table, you just need to compare the data. Be careful, this is not the ideal weight for men and women, but the maximum. Also remember that the table shows the height and weight of an adult from 20 to 69 years old.

    At all times, women paid special attention to their appearance, and the leading position here was occupied by the figure or weight of the representative of the fair half of humanity. And if from century to century ideas about the ideal forms of a girl have changed dramatically, medical concepts of ideal weight have generally remained unchanged for several centuries. Excessive fatness, or, conversely, thinness, which were the standards of beauty in different eras, is not in fashion today. And if we talk about the ideal weight for a girl today, then the most important thing here is moderation in everything.

    Is there an ideal height and weight for a girl?

    Until recently, the recognized standard of beauty was an almost boyish figure, with no room for anything “extra.” Today you can often come across heated debates about the ideal figure and the ideal weight; as a rule, these are two opposing camps, the participants of which are ready to debate for a long time about what a modern representative of the fairer sex should look like, what is the ideal weight for a girl. Some argue that it is necessary to “hang out” in the gym all day long and carefully count all the calories that enter the body during the day. Others are trying to prove the opposite point of view is correct - that you shouldn’t torture your body with workouts and strict diets, you can calmly eat whatever you want and not abuse your body on the treadmill. As always, the truth is somewhere in the middle; the ideal weight for a woman is her natural weight. And in order to find out the treasured figure, it is important to take into account many other factors, and not just the value touched by the scale arrow. It is necessary to take into account height, age, body type, as well as body volumes and proportions.

    Today, there is more than one formula by which women in different countries calculate their ideal weight. But the calculations obtained using these formulas do not mean that this ideal weight for your height for girls should be the only correct one. The information that you will see in the table of ideal weight for girls is more of an informational and advisory nature. Only a personal nutritionist can provide the most complete information, who will know not only your obvious data (height, volume, age, proportions), but also individual characteristics and diseases. After all, a lot depends on them too.

    Ideal weight table for girls

    The most famous way to calculate ideal weight is the formula of the French anthropologist Broca, which is relevant for people above 155 and below 185 centimeters. This formula for calculating ideal weight and height has been used since the 19th century. You need to find out your height, and then subtract 100 if your height is less than 165 centimeters. If a girl’s height is up to 175 centimeters, then 105 must be subtracted from her height. If a girl is lucky enough to be born tall, and her height exceeds 175 centimeters, 110 must be subtracted from it.

    However, this is not the end of the calculations of the ideal weight for your height for a girl. When calculating, it is necessary to take into account your body type. It is calculated by the circumference of the wrist.

    If the wrist circumference is less than 15 centimeters, this is an asthenic girl. A hand circumference of 15 to 18 centimeters is usually characteristic of normosthenics. The wrist circumference is from 18 centimeters for hypersthenics. For asthenics, the number obtained from “subtracting” growth should be reduced by 10%. This will be the “ideal” weight. Hypersthenics need to add 10%. And for normosthenics, additional calculations are not required.

    To make it clearer, let's look at specific examples. The ideal weight for a height of 165 for a normosthenic girl can be found out by simply subtracting 100 from 165 - in the end we get 65 kilograms.

    We can calculate the ideal weight for an asthenic girl who is 170 tall if we subtract 105 from 170 and minus 10%. We get 170-105=65. And another “minus 10%” = 58.5 kg.

    We find out the ideal weight at 160 for a hypersthenic girl by making the following calculations: 160-100 = 60 and minus 10%. We get 54 kilograms.

    It is important to remember that these calculations do not take into account additional factors: age, volume, body mass index. The last point should also be taken into account, since an athletic girl with toned muscles may weigh more than a woman who does not play sports. This happens because fat is lighter than muscle, and in this case, a trained girl with a lot of weight will look more attractive than a lighter sybarite who is not into sports.

    To make the information received better remembered and perceived, we present a table of weight and height correspondence.

    Ideal weight table for girls
    Height, cm Weight, kg Height, kg Weight, kg
    Up to 150 46-47,4 171-175 58-63,1
    151-155 47,8-49,9 176-181 64-67
    156-160 50,5-52,6 181-187 67,4-70,2
    161-165 53,2-55,8 187-190 70,9-73,5
    166-170 56,6-59,5 Over 191 74,3-77

    However, there is an exception to the table. If the girl’s height does not exceed 159 cm, her weight should be 15% less than the given value. And if the girl is under 20 years old, you need to subtract another 3-5 kilograms from the obtained value.

    Ideal weight for your age for girls

    A person's weight increases with age, and this is considered normal. Of course, its increase should be “within what is permitted” and not be too sharp, strong and critical for a person’s appearance and lifestyle. A woman may feel that her weight is higher than normal, but at the same time it will be within the normal range for her age. To calculate ideal weight based on age, use the following formula: 50 + 0.75 (P-150) + (B-20) /4

    In this formula, P is a person’s height, and B is his age. For example, for a girl 27 years old and 170 cm tall, judging by this formula, the ideal weight would be 66.75 kg. 50 + 0.75 (20) + (7) /4 = 66.75

    Also, what is the ideal weight for a girl with a height of 150, 160, 165, 170 cm and above, the corresponding table, which is also focused on the person’s age, will help you find out.

    This page of the site offers tables of normal weight in relation to a person’s height, also taking into account body type.

    There are three types:

    1) hypersthenic- a person with short arms, legs, neck and broad shoulders.

    2) normosthenic- an ordinary person with an average metabolic rate.

    3) asthenic- a person with a high metabolism, narrow shoulders, long legs and arms.

    How to determine your body type?

    With the thumb and forefinger of one hand, grasp the wrist of the other where the bone protrudes. If you couldn’t grasp it, you are a hypersthenic; if it happened with great difficulty, you are a normosthenic; if it happens easily, you are an asthenic.

    In addition to the "weight table", there is calculation method height-weight ratio (provided that your height is more than 170 cm).

    To do this, subtract 110 from your height (in centimeters). The resulting value is your proper weight in kilograms. To be more precise, for asthenics you need to subtract 115, for normosthenics - 110, for hypersthenics - 100.

    Does age affect height-weight ratio?

    The answer is clear. Yes, of course it does. It has been proven that the weight of men and women should gradually increase with age - this is a normal physiological process. The kilograms that some people consider “extra” may not actually be so.

    You can use a formula based on age to determine your optimal weight.

    Body weight = 50 + 0.75 (P - 150) + (B - 20) : 4

    R- height
    IN- age in years.
