The exact length depends on the desired depth of the collar. Next, we begin to reduce the number of loops. We reduce the first 5-6 cm in every fourth row by eight loops. On the next 5-6 cm we decrease 8 loops in every second row. As a result, the narrow edge of the collar should be less than the wide one by one third. After this, close off all the remaining loops. Then we align the edges of the product and crochet them.

The “collar” as a whole with a dress or sweater

In this case, to begin with, loops are picked up along the edge of the product. By the way, in this case we will have an inverted trapezoid, which means that the canvas will expand rather than narrow. We begin adding loops already in the second row. To knit in the round, you need to cast on a number of stitches equal to the length of the lower circumference of the collar. Well... In principle, of course, you can cut the parts the way you want, but it doesn’t always work out well. I sewed one blouse from the fabric at angles of 45 degrees - I combined the herringbone pattern on the side, shoulder and middle seams. It turned out, well, very beautiful and impressive, but the oblique one is very unpredictable. It can lie in different ways. HOW it will fall is very difficult to predict in advance. This concerns fabrics.
But as for knitwear... I sew quite a lot from knitwear, but these are mostly simple (worked out) patterns and models, respectively.
Knitwear, in fact, is also very different. Agree.
If you want my opinion, I would not cut knitwear crosswise. When I worked before in one company, I had experience sewing (small) on the bias (not across), but it was not very successful.
A very important point - what kind of knitwear?
If it is a very stretchy knitwear, then it is better not to experiment with the direction of the cut. But if the knitwear has little stretch, then you can try a bias cut.
This is all very individual.
A! I remembered! I sewed a set (two piece - T-shirt + tunic) crosswise. But there the fabric itself was like that (embossed, with protrusions). But it also didn’t work out very well. Before opening it was not possible to take into account the consequences (although there were guesses). The tunic shrank in width (this was a grain thread), and in length it stretched out (this was a weft). Loose knitwear sometimes has this peculiarity when it shrinks in width and, as a result, stretches out in length.
