At the age of 34, the athlete decided to end his playing career. On August 6, 2017, at the St. Petersburg stadium, before the match of the fourth round of the Russian Championship against Spartak (5: 1), a solemn farewell ceremony for Kerzhakov took place.
On March 15, 2018, the athlete was appointed head coach of the Russian youth team (under 17). The contract with the young specialist was signed until the end of 2019.
