• DIY trees from newspaper tubes

    09.10.2019

    Topiary is a small decorative tree with a rounded crown. This method of decorating garden vegetation came into our culture from Ancient Egypt, it was there that they first began to give trees an unusual shape. Over the centuries, the craft has grown into decorative art, the fruits of which are increasingly found in modern interiors. At the same time, you can make a tree of happiness with your own hands in just one free evening.

    Topiary with corrugated paper flowers

    Topiary with cute corrugated paper buds is often used to decorate wedding or birthday parties. Many brides even prefer to use artificial analogs of flowers for a bouquet, because such details will definitely not deteriorate at the most crucial moment, moreover, they are not inferior to natural peonies or roses.

    So, for making crafts with roses, stock up on the following materials: corrugated paper of the selected shade - for the inflorescence; scissors; glue; pencil; green tape for the trunk; strong thread (can be replaced with a small wire); ruler; Styrofoam; barrel stick (e.g. Japanese chopstick, pencil, twig); newsprint or other thick paper; pot for indoor plants.

    For a standard size topiary, prepare 30-40 flowers. Cut strips 3–4 cm wide and 35–45 cm long for each rose. Fold the ribbon lengthwise by a third, and then wrap the top section at an acute angle and repeat the turns three times - this will form the middle of the rose. Continue turning until you have twisted the entire strip. Fix the tip with glue, and fasten the bottom of the flower with wire.

    The base sphere can be purchased ready-made or formed from newsprint. Wrap the newspaper ball tightly with thick thread. Please note that the paper blank must be larger than the size you want to get, as the thread will significantly reduce it. Glue the flowers securely to the sphere.

    Take your chosen barrel stick and wrap it in twine or green glue tape. Can be used corrugated paperby cutting out long strips from it, applying glue to the inside and winding it on the base. Place the ball on the barrel or fix it with glue.

    Use styrofoam or alabaster as a primer. In the latter case, fill it, leaving 2–4 cm from the edge, and insert the trunk. In this case, the stick must be held until the solution becomes dry. Decorate the finished foundation with fabric, tinsel or beads - whatever you like. Done!

    Topiary made from coffee beans

    Topiary from coffee is a wonderful gift that will decorate any corner of the house. It is environmentally friendly, beautiful and, moreover, also has an incomparable tasty aroma. It's easy to make - follow the basic instructions. Additionally, you will need 150-300 g of coffee beans, brown acrylic paint for the cover and, if desired, decor. All other materials and tools are standard, as for any other topiary.

    You can make the classic version without intricate shapes and decorations, the result will be elegant and laconic. But if your heart longs for creativity, we offer several original ideas:

    - The craft can take the form of a flowering tree and become an excellent present for a girl, mother or teacher;

    - Try decorating the tree with dried fruits and placing it in the dining area;

    - Use summer motifs and decorate the piece with small birds and butterflies;

    - Create a New Year's composition - a cute coffee tree. The base can be made independently from thick paper or purchased ready-made;

    - A man will surely appreciate a gift in the form of a money tree. It is enough to glue coins to the ball, and around them - a zipper, decorate the remaining space with coffee beans;

    - If you are thinking about a present for Valentine's Day or wedding anniversary, complete a heart-shaped topiary;

    - The cup hanging over the saucer looks very impressive, from which the grains are "spilled". It is not difficult to make it - instead of a stick, use wire, foam or hot glue.

    Cones topiary

    Another idea of \u200b\u200ba popular eco-decor today is a cone topiary. It will harmoniously complement an autumn or winter composition, and it is quite simple to perform it.

    In addition to the standard set of materials, prepare cones, pins, dried moss. Rinse the cones thoroughly and dry for 10 minutes in an oven preheated to 350 degrees. Prepare the trunk by painting or rewinding with string. Fill the pot with assembly mix or cut floristic foam, fix the trunk in it.

    The sphere can be coated with brown paint. Use pins or hot glue to attach the bumps to the ball. They must be secured close to each other. Large parts need to be glued first, the rest - in decreasing size. Secure the ball to the barrel.

    Cover the improvised ground with moss or other material that you like. Complete the composition with additional embellishments if desired.

    For the period of New Year's holidays, you can also form an impromptu conical Christmas tree.

    Floral topiary using quilling technique

    The topiary made using this technique turns out to be very cheerful and pretty. It will complement the interior of the nursery or serve as an interesting decor in the dining room or kitchen. Try it yourself, it's not difficult at all.

    So, you will need: thick, bright colored paper in various shades; a quilling device (if it is not at hand, use a toothpick or a needle stuck in a wine cork); spherical base; scissors; flower pot; barrel stick; glue (PVA and thermal gun); moss or other filler for covering "soil"; chopped foam; decorative tapes (optional).

    Slice colored paper into wide (one color) and narrow (another shade) stripes. Cut wide details along the edges, forming a fringe. Glue narrow elements to the edge of each such strip. Grease a thin strip with glue and use the chosen tool to twist it into a tight spiral. Do the same for the wide strip. Remove the craft from the tool.

    Repeat the algorithm for the rest of the stripes in different colors. Unfold the fringe - you get lovely flowers.

    Take the ball and fix the flowers on it with a heat gun so that there are no voids left. Lubricate the pot with hot glue and place the styrofoam in it. Cut a hole in the Styrofoam for the barrel, grease it with glue and place the barrel in it.

    Make a hole in the crown and place it on the stick-barrel, previously greased with glue. Decorate the foam soil with prepared moss or other decorative element. If you wish, you can paint the pot in a bright color, as well as tie the trunk with a beautiful ribbon.

    Seashell topiary

    Topiary from shells will perfectly complement the interior in nautical style... To make it, prepare the following materials: a ball for a foam base; various shells; wire; pot for stand; cardboard; twine or thread; scissors and hot glue gun.

    To make a crown of topiary, prepare: a foam ball, shells and white sisal. Using a glue gun, glue the entire surface of the sphere and wrap sisal around it. Prepare the shells and then attach them with glue to the sisal, leaving small gaps. This way you should cover the entire surface of the ball.

    For the trunk you will need wire, thread or twine, scissors and a glue gun. Shape the wire as desired and wrap tightly with thread or twine. You can make multiple trunks using different colored threads and different bends.

    To make a topiary pot, prepare a clay pot, styrofoam, cardboard or paper, ready-made trunks, scissors, and a heat gun. Place Styrofoam in the pot to secure the trunks. Then fix it with hot melt glue. Glue the finished crown to the trunk and stick it into the foam placed in the pot. Glue thoroughly with a heat gun. For strength, fill the empty space in the pot with crumpled paper, glue and cover with a cardboard circle. You can later close it with sisal or small seashells.

    Fasten the two shells together and place the pearl in them. Thus, you will get a wonderful pot decoration. Next, decorate the base of the pot as you like. Using satin ribbon, you can make bright accents and sprinkle the crown with the same "pearls".

    Step-by-step photo master class on how to make trees from newspaper tubes with your own hands

    For the master class, you will need the following material:

    • newspaper;
    • spoke;
    • pVA glue;
    • gouache;
    • coins;
    • leaves (sewing accessories);
    • monofilament.

    First, tear a sheet of newspaper into four parts. Twist each strip into a tube using a knitting needle (tilt 30 degrees). Paint the straws brown with gouache. Take a handful of tubules, glue them with newspaper (its size corresponds to the beginning of the branches). The more sticks, the thicker the trunk, the more branches and the more stable the tree.

    From below, wrap the barrel with a tube, periodically lubricating with glue. When the tip remains 4-5 centimeters long, insert a new stick into the hole, wrap the barrel again. Next, divide the tubes in half, glue each part with a tube. Divide branches randomly. Even if there is only one tube left, wrap it, increasing the thickness of the branch. When there are ten to fifteen centimeters left, stop the winding (move to another branch or glue the tip), crush the tube to make it flat, twist it into a ring.

    Return to the bottom, start to build up roots: wind the tubes in a circle, forming a stable base. Paint the finished tree with brown gouache. Then cover with varnish. Sew coins or leaves onto the branch. If after the decoration the tree has lost its stability, attach a rubber or metal ring to its base.

    Ceramic floristry Master class on creating Sakura from polymer clay

    The fire is burning, the wind is blowing, the sakura is blooming ...
    Good, YOU, time of day, our dear readers, craftswomen, needlewomen!
    The topic of our meeting today is bonsai sakura. We're going to talk a lot today. Make yourself comfortable.
    And let's start our conversation with the poems of the Japanese poet Hatori Haso.

    Ume plum on the window -
    First spring hanami!
    A fragile tree in a bowl
    The branches are covered with flowers ...
    Trill uguisu glorifies
    Plum blossom time!
    Remember! Love like bonsai
    You have to grow up patiently.
    Translated by D. Rumat.
    Some background information:
    Bonsa? Y (Jap. ?? lit. "grown in a tray") - the art of growing an exact copy of a real tree in miniature. The word "bonsai" comes from the Chinese "pen-tsai". Art arose in 231 BC. e. in China.
    Sakura - in Japan, it means clouds. The fleetingness, extreme beauty and speedy death of flowers are often compared to human life. Because of this, sakura flowers are deeply symbolic in Japanese culture, their image is often used in Japanese art.
    Once having created a bonsai, some masters will say to themselves:
    "All! Never again will I undertake this for anything…. "
    Others will certainly return to it again, improving their skills. By creating new, even more complex forms of the trunk and crown, delving into the philosophy of the art of bonsai.
    And if you're ready, let's get started. To create Sakura we need the following tools.

    At the first stage, determine the shape of the trunk of the future plant.
    Traditional Bonsai styles can be viewed on Wikipedia.
    An idea first!
    Are you already sure that the trunk of your tree will be straight with symmetrical branches, bent like a gust of wind, or have a cascade shape ?! So start with this!
    Draw a sketch. Look for pictures in the global network, think over the shape, choose the right size bonsai tree. This is important! Because if you get a small tree, it will get lost in a large container and the composition will lose proportions.
    For beginners, we recommend starting just with a sakura branch, which also looks very elegant in a small container and requires much less effort.
    So the trunk.
    Take wire number 22 and begin to increase its thickness. We used paper napkins for this.

    To remove excess looseness, we tighten everything with a floral tape.
    You may need to make several layers, but it is not at all necessary to make the trunk as powerful as ours.

    We will prepare the branches separately. They must be the same length as the main barrel.
    Attention!
    The bottom of the wire must be left open as these pieces will serve to fix the finished composition in the bonsai.

    Collect all the branches in the tree. Give the structure the desired shape and stick it all over with clay.
    Attention!
    After pasting the branches with bark, it will be extremely difficult to change their direction,
    therefore we do everything thoughtfully!

    In this work, we used the bark of wild grapes.

    Remove the topmost layer.

    For gluing, we used several types of glue: second, for instant fixing and latex.
    We want to warn you that this is a very painstaking work that requires patience and accuracy.
    But this method of creating a trunk is interesting in that you can make it absolutely of any shape, putting your energy, rhythm and mood into the product.

    Help yourself with tools. Use a slightly damp cloth to remove excess glue from the barrel.

    When the base is formed, think about how many flowers and buds we need.
    We must dress every twig.

    Prepare the required number of stems by rolling wire # 28 with polymer clay.

    We glue the pistil to the stem.

    Roll out a thin antenna from a tiny ball, sharp on both sides.
    Pion-online polymer clay is ideal for this process. Pion-online clay can be easily rolled into a thread thinner than 1mm.

    Fold the antennae in half.

    Glue to the pestle.

    Use acrylic paint to create anthers on the stamens.

    And let's get down to the petals.
    A strawberry flower cutter will help us in creating even petals of the same shape.
    P.S. For everyone who is unable to roll out petals of the same size from a drop of clay, we suggest using our tip. See the photo.

    Long!?...
    -NO!...
    -Try it yourself! ...

    Putting the petals together with glue.
    Attention! Be careful when working with second-hand glue; try not to inhale its vapors. Although the manufacturers assure us that it is practically safe, it must be handled very carefully. If you accidentally glue your fingers, do not forcefully tear them, try using a solvent. Protect your golden pens, your health and do not allow children to work with this glue!

    And since it so happened that we collect our flower as a constructor. We will also make a sepal one by one petal. 5 parts per flower.

    And one more detail is the thickening at the base of the flower, it is better to use latex glue.

    We tint the middle of the flower and the buds with a delicate pink color.

    We will touch up the base of the flowers and buds with oil paint.

    We will put it in a bunch as you wish, connecting flowers and buds.

    Glue the bark where you need it.

    If it seems to you that there are few flowers on a branch and it looks like “naked”, add a branch in the traditional way. See the photo.

    We fix the tree in the bonsai. For the mortar, we took river sand and repair putty.
    It was an experiment!
    As strange as it sounds, we also learn. Who cares ...?)) The weight of our product is about 5 kg.
    Advice!
    To lighten the weight, add fine expanded clay to the mixture.

    We glue the plant material to the glue, simulating grass.

    Some artificial moss.

    Well that's all!
    We wrote for a long time, but we didn't say everything. :)
    They molded it even longer ... And not in vain!
    We hope that we have inspired you to new feats! :)

    Creative, YOU, success!
    Love and prosperity!
    Your Pion-online and its craftswomen.

    Topiary, also called "European tree" or "Tree of Happiness", is a common interior decoration in European floristry, which has recently become widespread in our country.

    Topiaryis a small composition in the form of an artificial decorative tree with a predominantly round crown, located in a flower pot. Serves as a bright detail in interior decoration and symbolizes wealth and well-being in the house.

    When creating it, you can use the most various materials (flowers, coffee beans, sisal fiber, shells, beads, ribbons, cones, coins, etc.) and color combinations. Their sizes can also be very different.

    I would like to pay special attention to the fact that topiary is often called trees of happiness. The fact is that even in ancient times something strong in an emotional sense was presented in the form of a ball. Since then, it is believed that the shape of the ball brings happiness to its owner. And if you give a topiary to a person dear to you, then we can assume that you gave him a piece of happiness.

    An equally fascinating kind of creativity for me is weaving from newspaper tubes.

    History of origin

    Wicker weaving is the manufacture of wickerwork from a vine. The history of basket weaving has its roots in antiquity. People weaved from reeds, reeds, bamboo and willow vines. In Russia, basket weaving, baskets, baby cradles, and bast shoes was especially widespread. Our ancestors used this art form not for pleasure, but out of urgent need.

    The experience of our ancestors came in handy when weaving from newspaper tubes. With the help of such weaving, you can create a large number of beautiful and functional items for the home with your own hands. Wickerwork has a special aura. They are characterized by beauty, warmth and naturalness. Now this is an interesting, girlish craft everyone can master.
