    For the New Year, you want to decorate your home in some unusual way. Fortunately, on the Internet you can find many master classes that make it easy to create any paper decoration. In this article we will present you an option for making New Year's snowflakes made from ribbons using the kanzashi technique.

    Kanzashi was not originally a craft technique. This was the name of the flowers that Japanese geisha girls used to decorate their hair. These flowers were made from fabric and various bright scraps to match the color of the kimono and eyes. These flowers were and are the only decoration for Japanese women, because they cannot wear any earrings, rings, brooches or rings.

    In addition, kanzashi indicated the social status of the woman or girl who decorated her hair with them. The more flowers a lady has on her head, the richer she is. However, if a woman got married, then she was no longer allowed to wear a lot of jewelry on her head. She could attach a maximum of two flowers to her hair to complete her look.

    At first, when kanzashi first came into fashion in Japan, they were ordinary simple combinations of fabric that looked like daisies. Only at the beginning of the 19th century a new style of kanzashi appeared - “tsunami”, thanks to which the flowers became multi-tiered, voluminous and more beautiful.

    Kanzashi-tsunami were made only from handmade Chinese natural silk. The Japanese themselves already dyed silk in the colors they needed, using natural dyes.

    In the middle of the 19th century, the Japanese even began to open workshops in which professional fabric flowers were made for all seasons. For example, in the spring, they create yellow kanzashi:

    • Daffodils
    • Peonies
    • Peach flowers

    These same flowers are green in summer and red in autumn.

    Europeans picked up the idea of kanzashi at the end of the 19th century and began to use it not only to create flowers, but also many other shapes. As a needlework technique, in Russia kanzashi began to be used to make hairpins decorated with flowers. Petals can be made in two forms:

    • Round

    • Acute

    In exactly the same way you can make Kanzashi snowflakes made from ribbons. We will present a detailed master class on making one of these snowflakes in the next section.

    How to make snowflakes from kanzashi with your own hands?

    Snowflakes in kanzashi style look gentle and elegant. They can be used to decorate a Christmas tree, a brooch or a hairpin for a girl. We suggest you make one like this Kanzashi snowflake for New Year:

    To make one product you need a set of the following materials:

    • 12 satin squares with sides of 5 cm in blue and white colors (6 pieces of each color, respectively)

    • 37 satin squares with sides 2.5 cm in blue and white colors
    • 6 brocade square blanks made of lurex and shiny thread with sides of 4 cm
    • One circle of felt (either white or blue), the diameter of which is 3.5 cm
    • Needle, thread, heat gun
    • A small bead and a bead hugger corresponding to its diameter

    The entire snowflake should consist of three main parts:

    1. The main (large) flower is made from 5 cm square blanks
    2. Small flower made from 2.5 cm square blanks
    3. Branches (6 pieces) from white and blue squares

    Now let's figure out step by step how to do this a simple kanzashi snowflake:

    1. Fold three different squares - white, blue and brocade - diagonally to form triangles.

    1. Place the resulting triangles on top of each other (on blue and white, and then on brocade) and fasten them with a needle, but do not sew them together.

    1. Make a petal from this blank, sewing it together as in the photo:

    1. Make 6 small petals from white satin ribbon

    1. Insert these petals into the larger ones so that they look like this:

    1. Make small double petals from small satin squares and then combine them into a flower:

    1. Glue the large and small flowers together using a heat gun:

    1. Glue a white felt circle on the wrong side:

      1. Make rays from small white and blue petals and glue them between the petals of a large flower.

        1. Glue a bead to the small flower to complete the snowflake.

    This snowflake can be used in different ways. For example, attach a bobby pin or hairband to it. Then you will get a wonderful New Year's hairpin for a girl who is going to dress up in a Snow Maiden costume for a matinee. You can trim her dress with exactly the same snowflakes.

    By attaching a braid to such a snowflake, you can decorate the New Year tree very elegantly. Moreover, now decorating a Christmas tree in this style is very popular and fashionable, since glass toys were popular many years ago. You can also make a garland out of snowflakes by simply sewing them together.

    At the same time, snowflakes do not have to be made from ribbons of cold shades. You can use any tape you have on hand. In any case, snowflakes will look harmonious on the New Year tree and will not go unnoticed by the guests who come to your home for the holiday.

    In the video below, the needlewoman shows master class on making kanzashi snowflakes for beginners. Here you can see the process of creating a snowflake, which we described in the article. Only here a slightly different fabric was used, and the snowflake itself has a different shape.

    Continuing the series of New Year's craft lessons, we present you with another master class on making frame snowflakes from satin ribbons using the kanzashi technique.

    To make a snowflake from satin ribbons you will need:

    Satin ribbons of contrasting colors with a width of 0.5 cm, 2.5 cm and 5 cm;

    Napkin/corrugated paper;

    Wire;

    Scissors, thread, needle;

    Decor: beads, rhinestones, seed beads;

    PVA glue, hot-melt gun/glue “Moment-Gel”

    Tweezers, candle/lighter.

    Snowflakes from satin ribbons step by step:

    Make the basis for the snowflake branches - cut the wire into small pieces: 3 pieces of 8 centimeters each and 3 pieces of 4 centimeters each (photo 1). Wrap the snowflake blanks with corrugated paper/napkin, generously coat them with PVA glue and leave to dry (photo 2).

    Make narrow kanzashi petals from a satin ribbon 5 centimeters wide. Fold the ribbon squares twice, then overlap the triangles (Image 3). Fold the triangles one more time and secure (photo 4).

    By analogy, collect petals from a 2.5 cm wide ribbon (photo 5). Next, glue the small part into the large petal (photo 6). Make sharp petals in 3 shades from 2.5 cm wide ribbons (photo 7). Then, from the sharp petals, form modules consisting of 3 and 5 leaves (photo 8).

    The resulting modules need to be glued to the base wire: to long parts - modules of five leaves, to short parts - three leaves each (photo 9). Cut strips as long as the wire from a narrow ribbon 0.5 cm wide. Burn the edges at an acute angle (photo 10). Glue the strips to the wire and cut the “branches” in half (photo 11). Gather large leaves into a flower using thread (photo 12).

    Hide the underside of the flower under a circle of ribbon (photo 13). At this stage, you should get blanks, as in photo 14. Glue the wire with modules to the flower: glue the long ones onto the leaves, and glue the short ones between the leaves (photo 15). Cover the middle with a circle of ribbon (photo 16).

    We present to your attention a master class on making snowflakes from ribbons using the kanzashi technique. With this snowflake you can decorate a hair clip or make a toy for the New Year tree.

    To make snowflakes from ribbons you will need:

    Satin ribbons of a suitable color, 5 cm wide;

    Thread with a needle;

    Felt base 4.5*4.5 cm - 2 pieces (you can use other dense fabric);

    Lighter/candle, rubber band, Moment glue and heat gun.

    Snowflake made from ribbons using the kanzashi technique step by step:

    Cut the squares: 6 pieces of white ribbon measuring 5x5 cm, 6 pieces of lilac ribbon measuring 4x4 cm, 36 pieces of white squares 2.5x2.5 cm, 24 pieces of lilac squares 2.5x2.5 cm (photo 2). Make sharp petals from all the squares. To do this, fold the square piece diagonally, and then in half again (photo 3). And again in half (photo 4).

    Trim and singe the bottom edge. If you press the edges together when melting, you will get a version without a hole in the center. Or you can do it with a hole like this (photo 5).

    Glue small petals into branches of 3 and 5 pieces. Gather six small lilac petals onto a thread and pull them off. Gather six large white petals onto a thread and pull them together, then glue a medium lilac petal into each large white petal, then a small white petal. As a result, you will receive a flower and blanks - “twigs”, as in photo 7.

    Glue the flower onto the felt base (the first piece) exactly in the center. Glue small “branches” of three petals between the petals. Glue large “branches” immediately behind the petal. There will be about 4-5 mm left on the base, there will be enough space. Apply a generous amount of hot glue and press into place (photo 8).

    Photo 9 shows the reverse side. Next, you need to strengthen the branches, for which you cut strips of 0.5x3.5 cm (it is advisable to use a tape 0.5 cm wide). Sear all sides, making the end sharp. Apply glue thoroughly and press (photo 10).

    The New Year is just around the corner and I want to do something beautiful and very affordable for the New Year.

    This time I decided to show the lightest and most beautiful snowflakes. Believe me, anyone can do them.

    Let's get started.

    In order for our snowflakes to turn out elegant, we will definitely take a metallic ribbon or, as they also call it, brocade. And any colors - satin ribbons. Tape width2.5; 4; 5. Tools.

    Making the first snowflake.

    Cut the satin ribbon into 6 squares 5*5 cm. And for 6 squares a brocade ribbon: either 4*4 cm, or 5*5 cm - it doesn’t matter.

    We make 6 round double petals.

    We collect on a thread or glue the petals, we get a flower.

    I do this.

    Notice how I trim the petals that I will glue between the petals. At what angle is a very common mistake for beginners.

    Now we collect 3 petals. First, glue the two petals together.

    Then we turn them over and glue a third one between them. .

    We get 6 such parts.

    We take the flower and place it facing us. Apply glue where marked in red on the branch. And we slip it under the round petal and straighten it out. There is no need to pick up the flower, just let it lie on the table.

    We received our snowflake.

    Now we turn it over and see what can be done with such a reverse side. First, let’s coat the joints with glue (marked in red).

    Glue a satin circle so that the flower has a base. Glue felt only if this is the final look. In our case, it is not necessary yet.

    Now I'll show you how to decorate our backside.

    Then we glue our snowflake to the rim.

    Now you can seal it all with a circle and felt, but I decided to additionally secure the branches of the petals.

    Now, we cover the entire flower with a square of brocade and decorate it all with braid at the same time, covering the joints.

    This is what we got, the photo is a little distorted.

    You can see better here.

    In this case, the branches do not bend.

    All this needs to be sprayed with hairspray.

    Our headbands are ready.

    Such a snowflake on a headband.

    Second snowflake.

    Another option for snowflakes.

    We make 6 branches of 3 sharp petals from a ribbon already 2.5 * 2.5 wide (). We do not trim the bottom of the petals. Glue it together as I showed.

    We will make double sharp petals with an attachment.

    We make a triangle by folding the square 2 times diagonally.

    Glue our branch onto this triangle.

    And it’s like we hug from both sides.

    We received such a petal.

    The Japanese kanzashi technique allows you to create unique jewelry from fabric. A kanzashi snowflake is non-standard, beautiful and quite easy to implement.

    Products made from satin ribbons look gentle and noble. They are great for Christmas tree decorations.

    Such snowflakes are so elegant that they are quite suitable as hair accessories. Delicate blue jewelry can become elegant elastic bands or hair clips, a detail for decorating a headband or headband.

    You can attach a pin to the back of the snowflake, then it will become an excellent New Year's brooch, which can easily be attached to a fluffy dress.

    If you set yourself the goal of making New Year's paraphernalia with your own hands, then the given master class will help you.

    Snowflake using the kanzashi technique - the result of the work

    For convenience, here is a calculation of fittings for 1 product.

    Prepare the following for one kanzashi snowflake:

    • square-shaped satin blanks in soft blue and white colors. The side of all squares is 5 cm. The number of parts is 12 and 6 pieces of the first and second colors, respectively;
    • square-shaped brocade blanks - silver with the inclusion of blue lurex thread. The side of the squares is 4 cm. The number of parts is 6 pieces;
    • square-shaped satin blanks in soft blue and white. The side of the squares in this series is 2.5 cm. The number of parts is 7 and 37 pieces, respectively;
    • round bead hugger with a diameter of 1.5 cm;
    • blue half bead with a diameter of 0.8 cm;
    • a felt circle of white or blue color, the diameter of which is 3.5 cm;
    • needle and thread, glue - for collecting flowers and attaching parts.

    To make a New Year's product, you need to model several parts:

    1. main flower of 6 four-layer sharp kanzashi petals;
    2. small flower of 7 double sharp petals;
    3. 6 branches, consisting of one central blue petal and four lateral white petals.

    MK "Snowflake of Kanzashi"

    1. Prepare blue and white squares with a side of 5 cm and a shiny square of 4 cm for one sharp petal.

    2. Bend all three parts in the same way - diagonally.

    4. Fold two corners and fasten. The right corner of the former triangular piece will become the sharp end of the triple petal of the kanzashi. The side and bottom of the part should be cut off.

    5. To turn the resulting petal into a more elegant one, make it four-layered. For this you will need small white petals. They are made according to the same scenario, but from a white satin ribbon measuring 2.5 cm.

    6. You also need to prepare 6 small elements. The same parts in the amount of 24 pieces will be used in the future for branches. Insert sharp petals into the center of large blanks.

    7. Cut baby blue and white 2.5cm satin ribbon into 7 squares each. Make double pointed petals so that the white part is inside the blue one. Assemble the flower using thread and needle.

    8. Prepare narrow, sharp petals for the branches. Blue squares with a side of 5 cm will be used to make them.

    9. Such details will be one color. The squares are folded twice.

    10. Also, after forming the petal, the cut should be soldered, pressing it on the sides with your fingers.

    11. Prepare 6 identical petals.

    12. Gather the main flower onto a thread. Also decorate the small flower with a bright blue half bead and a hugger.

    13. Stick one layer on top of the other in the form of a pyramid. Cut out a 3.5cm felt circle.

    14. Make designs from long blue petals and small white petals, combining them into snowflake rays.

    15. Glue rays into the spaces between the petals of the main flower to turn it into a snowflake.

    16. All that remains is to glue the product onto a felt base to use as an accessory or decoration.
